Leon Wiatrak Managing Director Nollenberger McCullough Investment Advisors Leon Wiatrak is a Managing Director and Co-Chair of the Investment Policy Committee at Nollenberger McCullough Investment Advisors. Leon brings over 45 years of professional experience in the financial markets. His responsibilities have ranged from institutional underwriting and trading, to retail investing in both the fixed- income and equity markets on a global basis.

Leon began his career in 1968 in the Investment Securities Division of Bank of America. During his time at the bank, he served as Senior Vice President and Executive Officer. Leon’s desire to gain an understanding of the financial markets led him to begin a process that helped turn Bank of America into a global force in the fixed-income markets. During his 21-year tenure, Bank of America became recognized as a Primary Dealer by the Federal Reserve Bank of New York. Under Leon’s direction, the bank established itself as a leading presence in the US Treasury and Federal Agency markets. His responsibilities also included money market, municipal, mortgage- backed and euro-securities.

Leon was asked by the Federal Reserve Bank of New York to participate on their advisory committee for the quarterly refunding of the US Treasury debt. When Freddie Mac and Sallie Mae contemplated public funding, Leon was asked to participate with those agencies to help facilitate that process.

With a fixed-income orientation, Leon learned the causality between US interest rates and economic growth, as related to international foreign exchange, debt markets, and global economies. The investment world operated between New York, London, and Tokyo. In his travels, Leon met and worked with key individuals in these industries providing him a distinct advantage.

Leon realized the global prospects for establishing a multi-national futures commission business for the bank on the major US, Asian and European exchanges. As Chairman of Bank of America Futures Inc. Leon directed financial futures, options, and other fixed-income derivative activities for the bank. Leon also served as a director on the boards of BankAmerica International London and BankAmerica Asia Limited.

Leon had many rewarding years at Bank of America managing an institutional enterprise. In 1989, he left the bank to focus on the investment advisory side of the business. Leon has always enjoyed the personal side of the business. He sought to use his knowledge and expertise to serve the investment needs of both individual and institutional clients. Leon formed Wiatrak Behnke Capital Management, an advisory specializing in the fixed- income market, and later the firm merged with Van Kasper & Company, which broadened the scope of services to include equity investments. Leon joined McCullough & Associates in March of 2004 and acquired the firm in 2007. In keeping with the firm’s original value investing goals, Leon has expanded its depth and objectives with a steadfast hand and by bringing in top talent to stay. Leon’s high level of commitment and patience in developing a process and strategy that works, is evident in the firm and its team. Leon Wiatrak graduated from the University of San Francisco with a BA in Economics and from the Harvard University Graduate School of Business Senior Managers’ Program in Vevey, Switzerland.
